Event Navigation

August 8, 2019, 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. – Transit Day at the Lake County Fair, 889 South Court Street, Crown Point, Indiana
Join our members Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC) and East Chicago Transit and their partners North Township, Everybody Counts Center for Independent Living and Legacy Foundation on Thursday, August 8 for the seventh annual Transit Day at the Lake County Fair. The event connects North Lake County residents to the Lake County Fair with special transit routes, this year thanks in part to a grant from Legacy Foundation.
The pick-up/drop off points to and from the fair will be Walmart on Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond and in Griffith Plaza, in front of the old Service Merchandise Store. GPTC’s special Transit Day route will connect with GPTC’s Route R4 (Lakeshore South) in Hammond while also allowing for transfers from any scheduled North Township Dial-A-Ride riders. It will next connect with GPTC’s Route R3 (Lake Ridge) and East Chicago Transit’s Route 1 at Griffith Plaza (at the former Service Merchandise store). ECT will operate their regular service to the Plaza, with the last trip from Griffith Plaza leaving at 7:16 p.m.
The first trip on the GPTC Transit Day route will depart from Ultra Foods to the Lake County Fair starting at 9:30 a.m. Other trips to the fairgrounds leave at 2:30 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. For each southbound and northbound trip, the bus will stop at the Lake County Government Center to connect with GPTC’s Merrillville Shuttle and for any other fair-goers using this location as a park-and-ride lot to the fair. Northbound trips from the Fair will depart at noon, 3:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. Each trip on GPTC’s Transit Day route will cost $1 but all GPTC passes and transfers from GPTC’s other routes will be honored.
In addition, Everybody Counts Center for Independent Living will assist passengers in trip travel planning, including general trouble-shooting and arranging group outings for seniors and riders with disabilities. Contact them at (219) 769-5055 or (219) 937-5055.
Complementary paratransit service is also available for those who qualify. For more information about Transit Day schedules, please visit www.gptcbus.com.
